Primary School Keeps Everyone Updated with Shared Calendar

Primary school keeps events organized and parents updated

Teamup makes it easy to keep the pupils, staff, teachers, parents, and others updated with a shared calendar. Customized access, central management, better communication.

About Birkirkara Primary School

Birkirkara Primary School, as it still stands today, was built in 1926.  This same school served as a hospital during the second World War. Up to the present date, the school still retains its identity at the very heart of Birkirkara, on the island country of Malta.

Birkirkara Primary forms part of St Theresa College and the school population is close to 800 pupils, from Kindergarten to Year 6.  The school also provides education for learners from a migrant background. Their ultimate aim is to enable each and every individual move forward in life, thus enhancing school vision – ‘Little steps lead to great strides’.

Mr. Deo Grech, Head of School, shared their story with us.

Their story

Our major challenge is to reach out to all stakeholders, be effective in our communication and to avoid the annoying statement, “We didn’t know about it.” With a school community of over 2.5K people (800 pupils, 120 members of staff, 1500+ parents) communication is crucial!

We tried a variety of methods: the monthly printed newsletter, the weekly memo, Google calendar, etc. None proved as effective as Teamup calendar!

We use Teamup to organise all events which go on in our school. It is also serving the purpose as a means of communication internally and with the external stakeholders as well, mainly the parents and guardians of our pupils.

Each member of the Senior Leadership Team of the school has his/her own add-only link; we also have a read-only link for Parents and Guardians. These links are shared at the beginning of the scholastic year. Link is sent again to all those who ask for it throughout the scholastic year to have everyone onboard.

Thank you for offering such a value-added app for free! Please keep it this way.

What makes it work

  • Repeating events: No need to enter the same type of activity over and over again. The leadership team can create and set rules for events to repeat as needed. Sports or training events or academic focus or time blocks can be repeated on a daily, weekly, or more customized basis.
  • Customized calendar links: The staff members have calendar links that allow them to see all sub-calendars, and add events to the calendar. Parents and guardians have a read-only link that shows only the sub-calendar for parents and guardians. Everyone is able to access the information they need, easily. Parents can scan the calendar in Year or Multi-month view to quickly note holidays, school hours, and meetings.
    • To make it easy for parents and guardians to access the school calendar, the read-only calendar link is on a pinned post at the top of the school’s Facebook page.
